Paragliding Distance Record of Armenia

Paragliding Distance Record of Armenia

The chase for a new paragliding distance record of Armenia has probably been present since a very long time. Many people have constantly set new records getting paragliding in Armenia to a new level.

The pilots of Aero Club, mainly Tigran Ayvazyan and Harutyun Atshemyan were always dedicated to this cause. However, in 2021 the chase for a new record got into a new phase, at least for Tigran and Harutyun. With the proper planning and dedication, they managed to eventually fly from Hatis to Stepanavan. Tigran Ayvazyan, who managed to be the one setting the record in the end, had a very tough time thermalling over very tricky areas with a high performance, racing glider. "At times it was very tricky, we got stuck in areas where flying was full of stress and risk of bombing out, the craziest one among those was of course at Teghenis mountain" says Ayvazyan. One of the most memorable moments for him was at the slopes of Mt. Maymekh, where he got low again and couldn't believe he will manage to find a thermal strong and tall enough to be able to fly over the big mountain that Maymekh is. Luckily, after climbing to 4642 meters, he then flew north and reached the region of Lori and landed in a village close to the town of Stepanavan. Although the landing area was already at the border of Armenia and Georgia, there was still some distance that he could fly, but unfortunately, the north wind and rain put an end to his flight.
